The world is today mourning the loss of two icons of the entertainment industry following the deaths of actress Farrah Fawcett and king of pop Michael Jackson.
Fawcett died of cancer at the age of 62 in a Santa Monica hospital yesterday (UK time).
King of pop Michael Jackson died last night (UK time) at the age of 50. He suffered a cardiac arrest at his home and paramedics were unable to revive him.
The singer was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles, where fans gathered to pay their respects. News spread virally by social networking sites such as twitter almost immediately.
Jackson had been rehearsing for a series of 50 concerts in London’s 02 Arena which would have lasted from July 8 until March 6, 2010.
The music megastar sold more than 750 million albums worldwide and his music also appeared on many movie soundtracks.
He played Scarecrow in the 1978 movie The Wiz and had a small role as Agent M in 2002’s Men in Black II.
Jackson also starred in the 1983 mini-film pop video for his smash hit Thriller. The legendary $500,000 production featured a spoken section by horror veteran Vincent Price. It was directed by John Landis, who had made An American Werewolf in London two years earlier.
RIP Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.
