 | The government should make it illegal for internet sites to incite or advise people on how to commit suicide, a charity says. Papyrus, set up to tackle young suicide, said the risk posed by pro-suicide websites was not being taken seriously enough. The charity said the 1961 Suicide Act should be amended to make it illegal to publish such material on the web. The government said it was looking at how rules could be tightened. At the moment, the law says it is illegal to aid, abet, counsel, procure or incite someone to commit suicide, but to be successfully prosecuted the individual has to have knowledge and participated in the suicide. The charity said it was aware of nearly 20 internet-related suicides cases in the UK in the last five years. Papyrus said typing "I want to kill myself" into an internet search engine offers access to 5m sites, many of which give information on how to commit suicide or were chat-rooms where techniques are discussed. A spokeswoman added: "The sites take no responsibility for the advice they give, do not identify themselves and generally create an atmosphere where suicide is normal, acceptable and to be encouraged. "The fact is that it is illegal to groom a child to have sex, but not to kill themselves." The charity said as well as changing the law, the Department of Health's National Suicide Strategy needed to be amended to include reference to the dangers of the internet. It also wants to see computer manufacturers and retailers include leaflets the charity has produced warning of the dangers of the internet when they sell products. Law The Home Office said it was considering whether the 1961 Act could be changed to take internet sites into account. But a spokesman said: "It is a very complex issue, as many of these sites are hosted abroad and UK law won't apply there." And the Department of Health said it was looking at other ways of addressing the problem. "We share the public's concern about these websites and the influence they can have over vulnerable people, particularly young people. "Ministers are working closely with the Samaritans and the Internet Service Providers Association to look at ways of supporting vulnerable people who may be accessing these sites."  | Man, I cant believe that no one has posted here!! I mean, it should be taken seriously!!! I agree with what you said and what people are trying to do to take down the websites. A good thing to do to avoid depression is to do something that you like a lot!!! For example, for me is lifting weights, when I get stressed out I lift weights. Most stress leads to depression, and depression causes suicide tendencies. So it is better to get rid of it as soon as the symptons occur. It is good to do research and find out if you are going through stress or depression, because you might not know yourself! Good job count.   | ||

| | Yeah you are right Metallix!! I personally have never been depressed but I have been stressed out though. The reason is because my parents expect a lot from me. I come from a family that has a lot of pride and expects all of the family members to be good at sports and school!!! Man!!! It was hard enough playing football then soccer in highschool!! I mean, with soccer, I had a total of 17 games to play!!! 2 each week of the season. For footbal I had a total of 10 games but always had 2-aday-practices (it means twice the time of a normal practice) a normal practice is from 3 to 6 so a 2-aday would be from 3 to 9 pm!!! Then I had homework!!! Watching some funny shows really helped with the stress!! | ||

| This is a serious subject, and LIFEofEeofol don't say something like that because someone like me comes on and sees this and you are in trouble. I have lost a friend to it and I almost lost another one. It hurts. Metallix is right it does effect more than that person and it has almost been 3 years but I still get up set over it. don't say things like that again please. | |||

 | Now in someways I agree with both. i can agree it is their life to take but the reason I disagree with suicide is in every incidence its the person taking the easy way out life is to hard i do not have alot of money blah blah blah (I WARN YOU I WILL SWEAR AND THIS WILL PROBABLY GET DELETED) BUT [censored] them there are people in other countries who have it worse people in your own country who have it much worse but because something bad happens in your life you decide to kill yourself because to life is to difficult. Ive known people who were great people who died in accidents who were dooing something with there life and they died but then some person gets to end their life because life is complicated it just really angers me. Its disgusting the every 30 seconds someone commits suicide in the world. Go and take a look at all the richest people in the world( as in over a billion dollars) there are over 50 ppl who came up from nothing and 10 lived in poverty. Live has its ups and downs but fix your problems it could get better. When people start getting depressed go and look at someone who has it a 100 times worse.
